In Nov 2019, the Chinese Association for Cryptologic Research (CACR) held its annual conference where it issued the 2019 Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award. CS Phd graduate Sun Shifeng and Han Shuai both won this award.

Sun Shifeng graduated from the CS Department in Dec 2016. Supervised by Prof. Gu Dawu, he did research on the asymmetric encryption algorithms for pubic key encryption (PKE) and identity-based encryption (IBE) to respond to side-channel attacks public key tampering in his thesis. The research results have been published on ESORICS, the Computer Journal, ACISP and other conferences and journals.

Han Shuai graduated from the CS Department in Sep 2017. Supervised by Prof. Liu Shengli, he investigated the design of KDM-secure PKE and RKA-secure PKE schemes, which are immune to KDM attacks and RKA attacks respectively. The research results have been published on ASIACRYPT, Designs, Codes and Cryptography, ACISP, ASIACC and other conferences and journals.

The 2019 Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award of Chinese Association for Cryptologic Research is open to the dissertations of all Chinese Phd graduates who obtained the degree in the period between June 1,2016 to July 31,2019. Applicants are required to achieve significant results in basic theory or applied basic research in cryptography and related fields, or in key technologies and technological innovations. After formal review, preliminary evaluation and final evaluation, a total of 5 papers won the award. The other three winning papers were from Shandong University, Tsinghua University, and the Institute of Software of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
