On June
29, 2017, the 2017 awards ceremony of the 1985 CS Graduates Education &
Development Fund and Yang Yuanqing Education Fund was grandly held at the
No.200 Lecture Hall at SEIEE Building No.3. CS alumni who graduated in 1985
came to the campus for the ceremony, including Mr. Yang Yuanqing (president and
CEO of Lenovo Group), Mr. Lu Jianjun and Mr. Sui Ruiming. Deputy Director of
Shanghai NPC Standing Committee, secretary of SJTU Party Committee Jiang
Sixian, SJTU vice president Zhang Ansheng, director of SJTU Education
Development Foundation Ma Lei, dean of SEIEE Mao Junfa, deputy dean of SEIEE
Tai Nengling, deputy dean of SEIEE Zhu Yanmin, head of CS Department Guo Minyi,
Prof. Pan Yonghua, Prof. Hou Wenyong and CS teachers and students attended the
ceremony. Mr. Lu Jianjun hosted the ceremony as the secretary-general of the
fund.
The ceremony was started by Jiang Sixian’s speech. He extended warm
welcome on behalf of SJTU to all the alumni. He wished that the CS students
would make more achievements with the support of the fund. Jiang would like to
express heartfelt thanks to the CS alumni who established the fund to support
the education of SJTU and wished them a greater success in the future.
Mr. Yang
Yuanqing made an address on behalf of the 1985 CS graduates. He said that it is
an honor for him to return to SJTU to attend the ceremony. Currently the world
is undergoing the reform brought about by artificial intelligence, which is
gradually affecting all the aspects of industry and human life. Lenovo is
actively preparing itself for the new era by developing high-performance
computing. He believed that SJTU would definitely be a leader in the age of artificial
intelligence with its advanced research and strong faculty.
Sun
Ruiming reviewed the establishment and development of the fund on behalf of the
council. In March, 2017, the council decided to add scholarships for excellent
undergraduate students and master students, making the total amount of the
award reach 638 thousand yuan.
Prof. Guo
Minyi, head of the department, introduced the application and review process of
the awards on behalf of the review committee. The committee reviewed the
applications on the basis of different indicators and then determined 1 winner
of the Outstanding Young Faculty Award, 3 winners of the Excellent Doctoral
Student Award, 3 winners of the Excellent Master Student Award, 4 winners of the
Excellent Undergraduate Student Award, and 4 winners of the Encouragement Award
for Undergraduate Students.

Minyi then announced the list of awardees.
Peng Dan
made a speech on behalf of the winners of the Excellent Doctoral Student Award.
She thanked Mr. Yang Yuanqing and other 1985 CS graduates for setting up the
fund to encourage students. She also thanked her supervisor for the continuing
help, and the CS Department for creating a favorable environment for students.
Associate
Prof. Gao Xiaofeng addressed as the winner of Outstanding Young Faculty Award. She
first thanked the alumni for the donation and recognition. Then she introduced
her research and teaching in the past six years working at the CS Department
and said that she would continue to work hard in frontier research and
cultivation of students.
