CS Alumni Dr. Wang Yongdong Was Appointed as the Global Senior Vice President by Microsoft

On February 8, 2017, Microsoft announced the appointment of Microsoft (Asia) Internet Engineering Dean Dr. Wang Yongdong, as a global senior vice president.




Dr. Wang led Microsoft’s R&D group in the Asia-Pacific region, focusing on Bing, online advertising, voice, and several other technologies.

After leaving Yahoo, Dr. Wang joined Microsoft’s Bing team in 2009. He later returned to China to create Microsoft (Asia) Internet Engineering team. Microsoft’s popular Chinese chatbot Xiaoice was developed under his leadership. Currently, he also serves as CTO of Microsoft Asia-Pacific R&D Group, responsible for Microsoft’s Asia-Pacific R&D Group set up R&D strategy, vision and overall direction.

Dr. Wang Yongdong graduated from the CS Department of SJTU in 1984 with a Bachelor’s degree. He then obtained Phd of computer science at University of California Berkeley in 1992.
