CS Department of SJTU and UW EE Commit to Smart Cities Collaboration

On September 23, 2015, SJTU President Zhang Jie signed a MOU with President Ana Mauri Cauce of the University of Washington (UW) for “smart cities” cooperation. Prof. Guo Minyi, head of the CS Department of SJTU, signed a “smart cities” agreement with Prof. Radha Poovendran, chair of the Department of Electrical Engineering of UW.

The agreement formalizes the commitment of both universities to work together on smart cities research, teaching and collaboration. According to the agreement, the leaders will explore establishing an International Joint Research Lab to develop smart cities technology.

To create smart cities, technology is utilized to enhance the performance of cities. Smart city innovations use data analytics, sensors and other technology to create solutions to problems such as air quality, transportation, energy conservation and more.


The agreement marks a significant strategic step of our efforts in the collaborative innovation of smart cities and lays a solid foundation for the two sides’ cooperation in the future.
