Project 2 -- Intelligent Handoff in Mobile IP Networks
The aim of this project is to design a control algorithm that can switch between Triangle Routing and Optimized Routing in Mobile IP networks. By finishing this project, each student is expected to understand the principles and mechanisms of how to provide mobility support in wireless LANs with Mobile IPv6.
Platform
Since this is a hands-on project, you need to work in the wireless teaching lab, 4-101. Each group will select a team leader who will be given the access to the lab after hours.
What to develop?
Mobile IPv6 implementation used in our LAB applies Optimized Routing (Called Route Optimization). The work in this project includes two steps:
- To disable route optimization functionality and to demonstrate original triangular routing in Mobile IP. It may require some change of source code also.
- Design a control scheme that can switch between triangle routing and optimized routing based on some criterion or conditions.
- Cross compilation skills in Linux.
- Installation skills in Linux
- C/C++ programming skills
Run both routing schemes, record steps and procedures followed in your project. Remember to include description of Triangle Routing with output files (For example Ethereal Snapshots).
- Follow the similar steps in LAB2-MIP.
- Collect performance metrics such as throughput, delay, detailed messages.
