Students Led by Prof. Yu Yong Won ACM-ICPC Final Silver Medal, the 13th World Award

On April 19, 2018, the 42nd Association for Computing Machinery-International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM-ICPC) was held in Beijing. After continental competitions of teams from 51 countries and regions, 140 of them reached the global final, including Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, University of California at Berkeley, University of Waterloo, University of Warsaw, Duke University, University of Tokyo, Lomonosov Moscow State University and other world-famous universities, and 17 universities in mainland China such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University and Sun Yat-sen University. After 300 minutes' intense competition, the silver medal was won by Nightfall Team composed of Qiu Wenda (junior), Luo Zhongtang (sophomore), and Li Boning (freshman) respectively from SJTU School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering and Zhiyuan College ACM Class, with 7 questions solved and a final rank of 8th. It was the13th time that SJTU stood on the ACM-ICPC world podium. Lomonosov Moscow State University Team won the championship.







Since the participation in ACM-ICPC in 1996 and its first medal in 2000, SJTU has won 13 medals in 19 years, including 6 gold, 5 silver and 2 bronze medals. SJTU has always ranked among the top in the world, including three champions respectively in 2002, 2005 and 2010, and two runner-ups respectively in 2013 and 2016.
