Recently the list of awardees of the 2015 Excellent Thesis Award of Shanghai was published. Dr. Haofen Wang who graduated in 2013 (supervised by Prof. Yong Yu) and Dr. Quan Chen who graduated in 2014 (supervised by Prof. Minyi Guo) won the 2015 Excellent Doctoral Thesis Award of Shanghai.
Dr. Haofen Wang’s thesis “Semantic Search on Large Scale RDF Data” aims at systematically tackling the following challenges raised by semantic search on large scale RDF data: scalable graph data storage and indexing, efficient query processing with both graph constraints and keywords, effective entityoriented structural ranking, heterogenous data integration from multiple sources, and friendly user interaction and search interface.
Dr. Quan Chen’s thesis “High Performance and Energy Efficient Task Scheduling in Complex Parallel Architectures” investigates high performance and energy efficient task scheduling policies thoroughly. Based on the investigated policies, for complex parallel platforms, the thesis proposes and implements a runtime High Performance Energy Efficient task scheduling system (HPEE system).
